// W255DP La Grange, Georgia
Owned by Tiger Communications
- History:
- This station came
on the air as a 500 watt daytimer in 1953, by Chattahoochee
Broadcasting. Studios were in the Hammett Building.
At least back to the 70's, the station had a fairly diverse
programming lineup, with Country, Contemporary Pop and black
oriented programming through the week. Had progressed to a
Middle of the Road (MOR) format by 1982.
Chattahoochee Broadcasting held on to the station until it was sold
to Thompson Broadcasting in 1987. Under their ownership, the
format was Adult Contemporary early on, then became News/Talk by the
early 90's.
The station was sold to Casey Network LLC in 2002; they flipped the
format to Oldies. They, in turn sold the station to Tiger
Communications (who own several stations in central Alabama) for
$279,000, which also included another La Grange AM, WRLA. The
station was last known to be running the Scott Shannon True Oldies
Channel.
The station signed on FM translator W255DP in July 2021 at 98.9 MHz.
In April 2022, the station flipped to a Classic Country format as
"Classic Country 98.9".
In March 2023 the station was granted a Special Temporary Authority
to remain silent after a catastrophic transmitter failure. The
station filed a resumption of operations notice with the FCC in
mid-December 2023.
