Silent
// WESZ Abbeville, AL
- Owner:
- Columbia Radio
Communications, Inc.
- History:
- This station received
its original construction permit in February of 2013. A month
later a minor modification permit was issued which moved the
transmitter site approximately 1800 feet from the original site.
The station filed a license to cover in November of 2014 and began
airing a wide-ranging variety format, including operas, classical
music, old time radio (OTR) as well as other niche radio
programming. The station later added a website, which lists
classic country as the only type of music they play as of January
2016. That website eventually went defunct, and was replaced by
another one proclaiming that their format was Gospel. As of the
winter of 2020, the station's website has it paired with
Abbeville-area WESZ-LP, and lists formats of Jazz, Oldies and Gospel
on weekends. The
stations appear to have the same format and schedule but not be
simulcasting exactly.
The station was granted a Construction Permit to change frequencies to
93.7 MHz in July 2020, with the same power and antenna height as the
previous facility, 83.7 watts at 107 feet HAAT. In May 2022, the
station was granted another modification, to increase height to 203
feet while lowering power to 23 watts. The station filed a
Silent STA request with the FCC in September 2022, citing the sale of
the property the station was on and an inability to find a new
location.
In mid-December 2023, the licensee requested the license be cancelled.
