History:
This station dates back to an original construction permit first issued in October 2012 to the Anniston Seventh-Day Adventist Church, but the frequency actually goes back to the 1940's.  For more information on the history of the frequency itself, see the WHMA-FM profile page.

The original permit was to be for a fuller Class C3 signal, with 25 kW from a tower near the Longleaf Botanical Gardens, near Saks and north of the present transmitter site.  The initial call sign granted was WRHP.  In May 2017 the station was able to go up to a taller nearby mountain and decrease power while maintaining much of the same coverage.  Interestingly, this is the site of the previous incarnation on this frequency, WHMA, when it was an East Alabama 100 kW powerhouse.

The station filed a license to cover in May 2018 and began airing a Seventh-Day Adventist talk format called "Elijah Radio", which is also heard on WSJL in Bessemer and WCJL in Margaret.

In August 2023, the station was sold by the Anniston Seventh-Day Adventist Church to Elijah Radio, Inc. for $100.  Elijah Radio had been operating the station under an agreement with the church since it signed on.  The FCC approved the license transfer in May 2024.  In July 2024 the FCC granted a change to the call sign from WRHP to WIJL.
