History:
This station dates back to an original construction permit granted in March 2024 for a new low power FM station in Pensacola to 309 Punk Project.  The original grant had the antenna on a cell phone tower near the intersection of North Davis Street and East Cervantes Street, east of downtown Pensacola, with 41 watts on 107.7 MHz.  The WPNX-LP call sign was granted in September 2025.

In February 2026, the permit was amended to move the transmitter to the top of the SCI Building at North Spring and West Garden Streets in downtown Pensacola, with a change in power to 45 watts at 174 feet AGL (Above Ground Level).  In August 2026, the permit was assigned to Free Radio Pensacola.  The station was reported on air, testing as of 23 September 2026, with plans to launch a wide ranging, free-wheeling music format that showcases both local artists but also what people in the community listen to.
