History:
Was WXGR back in the 80's.  Became WBSL (Bay St. Louis) at the tail end of 1998.  The station has had every format imaginable: easy listening, oldies,  country, adult contemporary and black targeted programming. It's a struggle due to it being an AM daytimer and the fact it's so close to New Orleans. Station has been known to go dark for short periods.  As of 2008 they are doing blues, as "True Blues".

In mid-July 2009 the calls changed to WJZD, to go with WJZD-FM licensed to Long Beach. June 3rd, 2010 the calls changed to WMEJ.  When the calls changed to WMEJ, the station went Spanish as "La MEJor".  Played to the New Orleans market despite having a null in that direction.  Also used the name "La Poderosa" at some later point, too.

After failing to establish a significant following, the station changed formats in April 2013 to gospel music in an attempt to begin re-serving the immediate area.
