- History:
- The WKNG-FM calls
were assigned in March of 2005 to Covenant Communications, which is
a noncommercial offshoot of the Graddick family, which owns
commercial stations WKNG, WLBB and WCKS in Carrollton,
Georgia. Originally covering Heflin with just 250 watts
of power, it had a construction permit for 1,000 watts vertical ERP
with a move to a higher site right in the heart of Anniston. That
permit expired in April, 2009. In May 2015 the station was
granted a power increase to 1,000 watts from the site transmitter
site in the middle of nowhere, and put that facility on the air in
October of 2015.
At the end of April 2025, the station was granted a permit to make a
very minor modification to the site elevation, which resulted in the
antenna height being slightly lower than previously known; as such,
a small bump in power was also granted to maintain coverage
consistent with the licensed parameters. A license to cover
for this minor change was filed in early May 2025.
