- History:
- This station came on the air in the
early 90s as WSSY-FM (Sunny 97), under the
ownership of Talladega Broadcaster Partners, Ltd. Licensed and
broadcasting from Talladega, the station originally had an adult
contemporary format. The license was assigned to Williamson
Broadcasting in 1997, and the station was passed on again to Great
South Wireless (via a subsidiary) in 2003. In June 2004, the
calls changed to WKGA, but less than a week later they changed again
to WZLM, a set of calls that had been on a station in
Dadeville. The calls changed back to WKGA in November of 2007
after the station was acquired by Lake Broadcasting, Inc. The
station has long been reported to be in a simulcast with WTID-FM
(former WKGA, among many other calls) in Thomaston, on the other
side of the state, but that station has consistently remained off
the air for years.
