Owned by the Alabama Educational Television Commission

History:
The Alabama Educational Television Commission was granted a permit for a new full power digital television station on RF channel 4, licensed to the city of Vernon, in mid-February 2025.  At the time the application was granted, the AETC had requested the call sign WJIQ, which represents the next letter in the alphabet in their station naming scheme, which runs from WAIQ in Montgomery to WIIQ in Demopolis.  One of the stated goals listed in the application for the station was to fill in a longstanding coverage gap in the APT network.  The community of Vernon, in Lamar County, is outside the coverage of APT stations in Florence and Birmingham, as well as Mississippi Public Broadcasting stations in Columbus and Tupelo.
