Radio Insight article on the station's launch of a Spanish
Tropical music format, administered by JVC Media. From February
2025.
- Owner:
- Fort Walton Beach Radio,
LLC (Eugene Cella)
- History:
- This station dates back
to an original Construction Permit issued to Eugene Cella for a new
class A station on 106.9 MHz, licensed to Fort Walton Beach.
When the permit was granted in October 2021, it set off a change at
the translator for Pensacola-area AM station WRNE, who was on the same
channel. That translator was granted a move to 93.7 MHz in June
2021 but was unable to move frequencies until this station filed a
license to cover for 106.9 MHz.
In early September 2024 the license was transferred to Fort Walton
Beach Radio, LLC, a wholly owned company by Cella. On 10
September 2024 the station applied for an initial call sign of
WFWO. On 19 September 2024 the station filed a License to Cover
but it wasn't until a week into November 2024 that anyone heard it on
the air, with a mix of Oldies, Big Band, Standards, Jazz and other
music, with no commercials or liners. Not long after this
initial report, the station was reported to be airing a Christmas
Music format.
At the start of 2025 the station was reported to be back to the
original format of Big Band/Standards, Oldies and Jazzy tunes.
In early February it was reported the station had flipped to a Spanish
language music Tropical format as "La Fiesta 106.9", as part of a
Local Marketing Agreement with JVC Media.
At the start of May 2026 it was reported in Radio Insight
that JVC was seeking to buy the station. The FCC currently only allows
four full powered stations on the same band to be owned by one
company, so they would need to seek a waiver to acquire this station.
