History:: WERH came on the air in 1950. The book, "Alabama's First Broadcast Stations", by Harry Butler says the calls for this station stand for "Where Entertainment Rates High". The station played southern gospel music in the mornings, and country in the afternoons. A regular contributor notes that this is the station where country singer Tammy Wynette got her start. She grew up around Red Bay and Tremont. The station had a split format, playing gospel music from sign on until noon each day and all day Sunday, and country classics from noon until sign off. A note from a local listener says the AM has been silent "for some time" as of December 2012. In mid-February 2015, the FCC acted on the long term silence by deleting the record for this station.
