99.1 originated in the
60's as WPMP FM, companion to Pascagoula daytimer WPMP AM 1580. After a
stint as WPMO, it went on a tall tower. After becoming a compeititor along
the entire coast and not just the cities for which it was named (Pascagoula-Moss
point-Ocean springs), the calls were changed to WKNN (for K-99). This has
typically been the #1 Arbitron rated station in recent years.
