History:

One of the newer commercial stations in the state, it signed on in 1998.

Arbitron had to reissue the Montgomery ratings book for Fall 1998 because WJWZ appeared third overall in its first book. The problem was that the station's construction permit had been issued with the WICE call letters and Arbitron could not locate the station in the phone book to confirm the new calls or black contemporary format!

In September, the station switched from its hip hop/urban format (which moved to WBAM in Montgomery) to talk and news. The change was only temporary because as of early October the station is back to its musical format.
