106.7 started out as
a local Port Sulphur (about 40 miles south of New Orleans) station, with
the calls KKHA, a black gospel station in the mid-80's. When they went
to a taller tower, closer to New Orleans, they became a metro competitor.
They tried several formats, including jazz and a "rockin' country" format,
monikered as "The Gator", before adopting the KKND calls and "The
End" moniker. This is the third station in New Orleans to carry Howard
Stern.
